Wippies HomeBox installation

Wippies HomeBox is installed in the same way as a normal ADSL device. HomeBox comes with power source, 1 meter ethernet cable (RJ45) and 1 meter phone cord (RJ11).

HomeBox works with most ADSL broadband connections: The device currently supports the following ADSL connections:

  • Bridged and PPPoA/PPPoE
  • Freely settable VPI/VCI settings. Default values: 0/100.
  • Does not support ISDN-type ADSL-connections, only POTS-type supported.

Homebox can be also connected to Ethernet based connection or 3G-modem uplink.

Installation

When you have switched on HomeBox and connected your ADSL line to HomeBox’s DSL-port, HomeBox will set up the ADSL connection and the DSL light will light up. Once the DSL is lit steady, the line is ready. When the Interned light is lit you can start using your Internet connection through Homebox. It’ll take about ten minutes more before you can use the connection. This only happens when you install HomeBox for the first time. HomeBox is usually up and running in about one minute after connecting to the ADSL line.

If you want to connect your Homebox to a different connection than ADSL-line you will have to set the device to use the correct type of connection method. The Internet connection settings can be found from the Homebox local LAN-address http://192.168.0.1/. Refer to the Wippies Wiki for more information.

You can connect your computers to the HomeBox LAN-connectors, LAN1, LAN2, LAN3 or LAN4. Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer. Alternatively you can use the wireless connections (WLAN) Homebox creates.

Wireless network (WLAN)

Wippies HomeBox creates three WLAN networks:

  • WippiesHome network is your own wireless home network. You can configure settings from http://my.wippies.com/
  • The Wippies network is open to all Wippies members. It is completely independent of your local network and its connection speed is limited so that guests cannot mess with your Internet traffic.
  • WippiesVoIP network can be used with Saunalahti Nettipuhelin -subscription to make VoIP-calls. Other services coming up in the future.

WippiesHome network

You can install WippiesHome network by selecting WippiesHome as your wireless network through your wireless network card administration program. The network’s default password is: wippieswlan12. You should immediately change the password at the administration page: https://my.wippies.com/. After logging onto the administration page, open the Device settings -page, select Modify. From the device settings page you can change your WLAN-network settings. We recommend setting WPA or WPA2 encryption method as it is the safest option. You can also change the name of the your network. Enter the new password twice in the right fields and then select Apply. HomeBox will update the new password within seconds.

Wippies network

You can log to the open Wippies network from any of the Wippies access points in the world.

Connecting to the Wippies network is done the same way as with any WLAN network. First select Wippies from your wireless network cards open network list and connect.

  • If you use Windows XP’s wireless network program, you’ll find available networks by clicking Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Wireless Network Connection -> View Available Wireless Networks select Wippies network and click Connect.
  • When you have successfully made a connection to the base station, open your web browser (for example Internet Explorer or Firefox) which will automatically direct you to the Wippies logon page. Use your Wippies visitor network user name and password to logon. Wippies members who also have their own Wippies WLAN base station can access your Wippies network.
